Leinster Novice Cross Country Navan 28.10.17
The weather was almost perfect for the Leinster Novice cross country in Navan apart from a strong wind at times. The course was a 3 lap course for the men and 2 laps for the ladies. It was good ground with some very soft patches due to previous races and many bends and uphill challenges to contend with. Tom Lupton was the star of the Portlaoise crew on Saturday coming 3rd in 20:26 only 6 seconds behind 1st place Fionn Buttner of DCD. Super running Tom. Paul Cuddy had a fine run too finishing the 6k course in 23:07. Anna Duggan and Maria Cuddy ran the ladies novice 4k 18:45 & 18:32 respectively and ran well among a field of almost 100 novice ladies.

Dublin City Marathon 29.10.2017
Again this year, Portlaoise AC was well represented on the streets of Dublin on Sunday. Dublin City Marathon is the largest marathon now in Ireland with 20,000 Irish and International participants and fifth largest in Europe. Portlaoise had 9 athletes. Aengus Burke unfortunately had to cut his marathon experience short this year with an injury and hopefully we will seem him back sooner rather than later. Good luck Aengus with your recovery. Our first member to cross the finish line was Richie Reid running his first marathon and ran a great time of 3:05.04. Joe Breen had a rocky start to his marathon morning with a sudden dash to the doctor with his young son but thankfully managed to get to the start line and ran this year’s marathon his 5th with a smile on his face and also posted a PB time of 3:38:33. Olwyn Larkin our first female to finish ran her 3rd Dublin marathon in a row. Olwyn is getting stronger with each year posting a time of 3:36.43 a new PB for Olwyn. Cathy Mulhare another first timer was also smiling through Phoneix Park completed her first marathon experience in 4:25:52. Nuala Arrigan ran in 4:50.59, also another lady who is becoming a regular marathon runner on her 4th and has already decided next year is on the cards. Niall Curtis is not a first timer by any means to marathon running and decided this year to support his partner Sinead Curtis on her first marathon experience who is also only running 3 years. Sinead ran a great marathon in 4:54.05 and is still glowing from her experience. Sharon Byrne has taken on many challenges this year and well done on completing Dublin City Marathon in 5:18:2. Well done to all of you. You have done yourself and your club proud.
There was great support along the route from Portlaoise AC and each runner is so grateful for the cheers, water and jellies.
