Portlaoise Athletic Club Fun Day 28.5.17

The fine weather made a welcome return for our Family Fun day on Sunday 28th May. The main event of the day was our Juvenile Marathon Relay which kicked off at 1pm with Kate Delaney taking on the first lap and many of our juveniles taking on several laps of the relay culminating with Siofra Marum leading all the juveniles into the final 105th lap to finish our marathon relay in just under 3 hours! Well done to all our Juveniles it was a super achievement! Along with the marathon we had egg and spoon and wheelbarrow races for our juveniles however it was in these events our parents and seniors showed their competitive sides. Marie Brennan shone well in her new over 40 age category in the egg and spoon placing in 2nd position. Question marks were raised over John Lambe’s recent Ironman victory given his abysmal performance in the egg and spoon race. Richie Reid maintains himself and John Lambe were taken down in the three legged race and requests a rematch. Patrick and Catriona Marshall are currently researching upcoming three legged races to continue their winning streak whilst Derek & Mary Meade are basking in their glory as winners of the wheelbarrow race. The bar has been set for next year. Many thanks to all our parents and coaches who helped on the day but special thanks goes to Michael & Jack Delaney who put all the hard work into making the event the success it was.

Celtic International Track and Field - Santry 27.5.17

Seodhna Hoey, representing the Irish Universities Athletic Association, threw really well in the Celtic International Track and Field in Santry, considering how bad the rain was to finish 3rd with a new PB. Seodhna and her family should be very proud as are all at Portlaoise A.C.
