Weekly News Rounup - Week 23

 

Leinster Senior & Masters T&F Championships

Seamus Fitzpatrick & Seodhna Hoey are the shining lights in our field events over the last few years both competing in multiple events and competing to a very high standard.

The Leinster senior and master championships were no different this year with them winning 5 medals between them.

Seodhna had a great day she was 2nd in the hammer & weight for distance, 3rd in the shot putt and 4th in the discus.

Seamus was 1st in O/50 shot putt, 1st in the O/50 hammer and 2nd in O/50 discus.

Great running by Joe Walsh to win the O/45 3K steeple chase race. Joe led from the front and was never caught all the way to the finish line.

Tom Lupton was our only other competitor and Tom finished 7th in the 5K in what was a top class field. Great running by Joe & Tom and great throwing by Seodhna & Seamus.

 

Ballyroan Series 5K

Portlaoise A.C. had a great turn out at this race which was ran on a lovely evening, All our athletes enjoyed the BBQ afterwards and it was a great finish to the series.

First home on the Men’s side was Joe Walsh, Joe was followed by Alex McDonald, Joe is coming into great form recently and all his hard work is paying off, Alex also had a great run and his persistent training is also paying off. Well done Joe & Alex.

First home of the ladies was Grace Reilly, Grace has won all the series races so far but had to be content with 2nd place this time, great running by Grace who is also getting great dividends for her hard work, Grace was followed home by Anna Duggan, Catherine Ryan, Olwyn Larkin, Martina Delaney, Noreen Daly, Elaine Moore, Martina Gardner, Sarah Conroy, Tracy Gavin, Margaret Mary Grant and Claire Dunne. Well done to all our Ladies.

Jack Delaney was our only Junior and Jack ran a great race and mixed it with the senior athletes, Jack is another athlete who is running well.

 

Vicarstown 5K Park Run

With all the racing on over the weekend it was good to see that we still had a few runners out at the local park run.

David Faulkner a new athlete to our club had another solid run to come home in 5th place overall and 2nd Junior, David was followed closely by Joe Breen in 8th place, Joe is another new addition to our club and Luke Gibney who also joined our club recently came home in 16th overall and 2nd Junior. Great running lads.

Our ladies were led home by Lucy Dunne who was 2nd female and Elaine Moore who was 10th female, Elaine and Lucy ran the night before in the Ballyroan series so a busy weekend for both girls. Great running by both of our ladies.

 

Tri-Athy triathlon

Well done to Niall Collins who competed in his first triathlon (Tri-Athy) over in Athy.

 

Cork Marathon

Great running by Nuala Arrigan to complete the Cork city marathon, Nuala finished 26th in her category, this was Nuala’s second marathon in a couple of months, great running by Nuala.

 

Ballyskenach 5k

Three of our athletes took part in this race, Tom Lupton ran a super race to finish 3rd in what was a very competitive race, Fionn Marum was 4th junior and again this was a very competitive junior line up. Noel Marum won the O/50 category. Great running by all.
