Medieval Marathon 30K Kilkenny 16.09.17
Congratulations to one of our new members Joe Breen on completing the Medieval Marathon 30k in Kilkenny. This is part of Joe’s training for Dublin City Marathon and we wish him the best of luck with the rest of his training.
Beat The Barge 4K
The weather was less than desirable for the annual Beat the Barge, however this did not stop people line out. There was just under 200 took part. We had Grace Reilly 2nd female, and Joe Walsh brave the weather on Saturday evening.
Juveniles Katie Walsh, Charlie Walsh, Tiarnán Marum and Fionn Marum took part in this popular race that is run on tarmac and grass. All of them ran great races and all managed to beat the barge.
Katie Walsh known for being a sprinter but went for the longer distance this week was 4th in her category, Charlie Walsh had a great run to finish as 2nd Senior, Tiarnán Marum having a great run of form at the moment was 2nd in the Intermediate race and Fionn Marum who is coming back from a long layoff finished 4th in the Senior boy’s race. Well done to all.
Junior Cert Results
Big Congratulations to Katie Walsh who got super results in her Junior Cert, well done Katie.
JJ Reddy 10k Kilkenny 17.09.17
Grace Reilly was out in action again on Sunday in this 10k and was 3rd Lady across the line in 39:54. Great running. Another two girls had fine runs with Anna Duggan breaking the 46 min barrier with a PB of 45.39. Martina Delaney also with a great run in 49.33.
Junior Park Run
A beautiful Sunday morning in Vicarstown on the bank of the canal saw the running of the 8th Junior Park Run. A lovely bunch of volunteers are here every week to line out our juveniles for this 2k. Age category is 4-14 and it has a lovely fun atmosphere. Leah Smullen was 1st junior female Caoimhe was 2nd , Aoife 6th and Emma Jane Cuddy was 7th. Well doe girls.
Spinal Injury fundraiser
Next month 7 Laois athletes will compete marathon events in Amsterdam and Dublin in aid of Spinal Injuries Ireland . In Amsterdam St Michaels AC Monica Corcoran and John Corcoran compete, along with James Hamm and Cyril Cuddy of Portlaoise AC. A week later Portlaoise AC members Joe Breen, Mary Flynn and Aengus Burke will compete in Dublin.
In conjunction they are hosting a comedy night in Kavanagh's of Portlaoise on Thursday 5th October featuring Fred Cooke and Michael Downey, hosted by the great Laois comedian Mark Doheny. Tickets cost €12 with non-attendance tickets at €5. Alternatively, each athlete has sponsorship cards or you can make an on line donations see Portlaoise A.C Facebook page for the link.
