Day 2 of the National League was a big stepping stone for the Ladies team from Laois. With a good performance on Day 1 of the competition, the Ladies knew that another strong day out would guarantee them a place in the National League final.
This is a big achievement when you consider that only 4 girls over the age of 20, competed for Laois County on the first two days of competition and this is a senior event. The Ladies came sixth overall, in only their second year in the competition, after a 27year absence.
It has taken a big team effort and we hope that the final will bring good fortune for this talented group of athletes.
The Laois County Mens team also performed well on the day and improved massively on last year. The competition was strong over the 2 days and it has definitely been a good learning experience for the relatively young team.
St Abbans also lead the charge in the Premier competition. While missing a lot of athletes they still managed to put in a great showing on the Day in both the Ladies and Mens competition.
Not many counties can put in 4 teams in this competition and then also be competitive. It shows the strength and quality of the athletes and clubs in Laois and all our competitors should be proud. Well done to everyone that ran, walked, threw or jumped over the first two days and best of luck to our Laois County Ladies team who will be competing in the National Leagues Division 1 Final in Tullamore on August 20th.
